Balance is Better

11 Jan

Happy New Year to all within our Tauranga Blue Rovers community. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break.

With January now well underway, our club is currently making plans to get ready for the 2023 and all that it brings. More information will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

First off, after receiving feedback from our club members and discussions with the other Tauranga football clubs, the committee has decided to continue with the ‘Better is Balance’ approach, keeping us in line with the other Tauranga clubs for Grades 8 - 12.

Last season Tauranga Blue Rovers joined with the other Tauranga football clubs in introducing New Zealand Football's ‘Balance is Better’ approach to team selection. ‘Balance is Better’ follows New Zealand and international research which has identified that children enjoy sport more and are more likely to continue playing sport when they're playing with their friends in an environment which prioritises connection, fun and development.

To this end, players in Grades 12 and below were organised into teams based around friendship groups rather than football ability and the club offered Skill Labs open to all players for those who wanted to extend and develop their football further.

The club understands that this new approach will take time to settle, but is committed to make this approach a standard. For the Grades 13 and up - trails may be held, depending on the number of players registered.
